But when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first. And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren...
(Acts 7:12-13a)

It is said that Joseph’s brothers went to Egypt the first time for corn/grain, and that is exactly what they got. They never thought there would be any desire from this great man who was presiding over Egypt, to have anything to do with them. Yet, there was a longing in his heart to extend his love to them, to fellowship with them, to care for them, to offer forgiveness to them, and to establish a relationship with them.

They (the brothers) needed this man more than corn, but they were blinded by past sins and were content and happy with the corn. Thankfully, corn runs out, and when it did, they ran back to Egypt, and Joseph was waiting for them. They came for more corn, but this time, Joseph reveals himself to them, and they learn so much more about him.

When they returned home the second time, they not only had corn, but a confession! Joseph is alive, he is powerful, and he bids us come unto him!

What a beautiful picture of Christ! The first time we came to Him, we may have been seeking material things like a job, boyfriend, girlfriend, college acceptance, or a thousand other things. But did you ever run back home, or to school, or to work and say, “Jesus is alive, He is powerful, He loved me and has forgiven me, changed my life and fellowships with me”?

For some, it may have been a third, fifth, or even a tenth time. Keep coming until you can say, “He is alive! He is my Savior!”

Corn runs out, but Christ is eternal.
