In the house of the righteous is much treasure, but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.
Proverbs 15:6
old wooden house under pine trees

Oftentimes when driving along a highway, I come up on an old home-place. There are sometimes trees that are higher than the roof, and overgrowth almost hides the falling structure. Many times I wonder in my mind if this was a happy home. Are there people still living who grew up there with fond memories of this place? Or was this a place where there was fighting, little affection, and painful memories? I would like to think the yard had had children running and playing, while parents would have been sitting on the porch watching as the days came to an end.

A happy home is something I think anyone should want to have. Yet, there are many different ideas as to what lies behind the secret to this success. I believe that this sixth verse will wipe out what many would think it would take, but aren’t willing to commit to this proverb. Wickedness has always promoted itself to bring happiness and plenty, while a quick look around proves the opposite. Solomon, the writer of most of Proverbs, was a man who found out the hard way that wickedness is not a promoter but a destroyer of homes.

However, in the house of the righteous is much treasure. It may not be the biggest, most lavish house, but it contains “much treasure”. The blessings of the Lord upon a home are something the world cannot compete with, and the wicked cannot enjoy.

A house, on the outside, may not look like a treasure, but remember, it’s who’s on the inside that counts.

Let your home be a treasure chest.
