Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
Proverbs 20:9

I think of the things that King Solomon could say: “I am King David’s son. I am the king of Israel. I am the richest and wisest of all kings. I have sat in judgment over great matters.” The list could go on and on, but one thing the king could not say truthfully was, “I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin.” Not even a king could do that.
What about you? Have you made your heart clean, and are you pure from your sin? If you say yes, my next question is, how did you do it? Were you baptized? Did you join a church? Did you clean up your lifestyle? While all these things are good and certainly worthy of our doing, they alone cannot make our hearts clean or pure!
So, how can we say our hearts were made clean and that we are pure from our sin? We must take away the “I have made my heart clean” and replace it with “Jesus has made my heart clean”. Then we can say, “I am pure from my sin”.
Jesus Christ is our only hope of having a clean heart! He took our sin upon Himself on the cross and has imputed His righteousness into our account! We cannot save ourselves any more than King Solomon could save himself, but by faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross, we can rest in God’s promise that our sins are gone and we are the children of God, justified through faith in the sacrifice of His Son.
