When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
Luke 5:8

In Luke 5:8, Peter said to Jesus, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” Peter acknowledges in this statement that Jesus is different from any other man: “O Lord”. When we come to the truth of who Jesus is, it is then that we can know who we truly are: “a sinful man”. If it were not for the grace and mercy of God, that would be a title that we would have to go by for the rest of our lives on earth and into eternity.

But through our Blessed Savior, we do not have to go down that road. After this declaration of Peter in vs. 8 (“a sinful man”), our Lord blessed him with some new titles.

friends standing next to each other

Peter became known as a “servant”, a “disciple”, a “friend”, and after the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord, a “brother”!

All mankind has no choice but to be identified as “sinful” people who are unworthy to be in the Lord’s presence. But once the Savior manifests His presence in your life, you can make another choice that leads to a personal relationship with Christ.

By faith Peter became a servant; by following Jesus, he became a disciple; by fellowshipping with Jesus, he became a friend; by the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, Peter finally became brethren! (John 20:17)

If you don’t like who you are, “a sinful man”, cry out to Jesus and He will make you into what you ought to be and really want to be...family!
