For wisdom is better than rubies, and all things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.
Proverbs 8:11
various gold and silver rings and jewelry

What is considered some of the most valuable things in the world today: gold, silver, stocks, homes, careers, smartphones, family, health, and the list could go on and on. How many people do you believe would add wisdom to their list? How many do you believe would put wisdom first on their list? This verse tells us that wisdom is more valuable than rubies, and all things desired or compared to it!

Proverbs 7:1-27, a life void of wisdom

Proverbs 8:1-36, the value of wisdom

Proverbs 9:1-18, the visions of wisdom

When reading these three chapters, as believers, we will surely agree with God that nothing is more needed or to be desired than wisdom. Nothing can make life more fulfilling and desirable than wisdom.

What is wisdom? Google says, “it is the skillful, discerning appreciation of knowledge from a fear of the Lord, leading to practical, godly living.” It is not just knowing facts, but knowing God! Wisdom originated with God (Proverbs 8:22-36). Wisdom is offered to others from God (Proverbs 8:1-5). Wisdom opens to us the truth of God (Proverbs 8:6-21).

In order to obtain wisdom, there must be salvation (Proverbs 7), separation (Proverbs 8), and sanctification (Proverbs 9).

Only those who have truly experienced the grace of God through

repenting of their sin, believing the gospel of Jesus Christ, and having

been regenerated by the power of the Holy Spirit can comprehend the truth and value of a little hidden gem found in Proverbs 8:11.
