A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
(Luke 2:32)

Could you imagine anyone having children, bringing them into this world, and not wanting them to be good: good children, good husbands and wives, good neighbors to others, good providers for the family, and a good name when gone from this world?

The Bible says Joseph was a “just man", and Mary was “highly favored by God”. With those descriptions of these two, they would be praying and preparing for good children. They certainly would want them to be the best they could be.

Although Mary bore the Son of God, we know that Joseph was not His father. Jesus was conceived miraculously of the Holy Ghost. God, His Father, says, “He shall be great.” He was not disappointed! At the baptism of Jesus, the Father said, “This is my son in whom I am well pleased.” Again, in Matthew 1:5, on the Mount of Transfiguration, it was said of His Son again.

What are some things that made Jesus great?

  • His birth - Jesus is God in the flesh (incarnation)

  • His life - He healed, raised the dead, stilled storms, cast out devils,

  • fed multitudes….

  • His purpose - to seek and to save sinners

  • His love - took our place/our wrath, and forgave those who believe

  • His resurrection - through Him, we have eternal life

  • His coming again for all who believe in Him

  • His book, the Bible, is the greatest, most read Book ever written

  • His name has outlasted all other names

  • His Excellency - at His feet, every knee shall bow and every tongue

  • shall confess that Jesus is Lord

The Bible declares that none are good, no not one, but through the greatness of Jesus, and our coming to Him in faith, we are just, highly favored, and children of God.

It is through His greatness that we obtain our goodness!
